Building Your Top
Building Your Top is a 90-minute, bottom-focused class about becoming a more skilled, knowledgeable, and active partner in your rope practice while setting the people who tie you up for success. The first 45 minutes are open to all levels and focus on the bottom's side of building a strong rope partnership: investing in your own education, developing body awareness through movement, knowing your anatomy and individual needs, communicating useful feedback, and using warm-ups and cool-downs to prepare for and recover from rope. The second 45 minutes puts those ideas into practice through a self-guided suspension sequence for intermediate/advanced tying pairs, with an emphasis on communication, troubleshooting, adaptation, and learning together in real time. This isn't about making bottoms responsible for everything that happens in rope; it's about giving bottoms more agency, knowledge, physical literacy, and tools to help build the rope experiences they want. Prerequisites: None for the lecture portion. For the second-half suspension portion, intermediate tying level recommended. Participants must have full suspension experience. Bottoms should have prior suspension experience and be comfortable communicating needs and boundaries in scene.
